Deacons

The first smiling face to greet you in our church will be one of our Deacons. We will welcome you, help you find a pew, and assist in any way we can to make your experience comfortable as you prepare for worship.

A Deacon, as set forth in Scripture, is an individual charged with serving God’s Church by delivering sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. “Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office” according to the Presbyterian Church’s Book of Order.

Here at Granite, Deacons are represented by members both male and female, young and not-so-young… the tie that binds is our love of God, and our desire to share our gifts and talents to reach out to our members and our community for the glory of God. Deacons are elected by our congregation to the Board of Deacons for a three year term.

The primary role of a Deacon is to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. We stock a food pantry in our church that allows us to assist families in need in our community with a quick response, delivered in person, from a smiling face and listening ear. From monthly church socials (following our 10:00 a.m. Sunday service with coffee & donuts and fellowship — generally the 2nd Sunday each month) to gift baskets, hand-delivered to our, sick, infirm, and elderly members, the Deacons strive to reach out with loving hands to our community to share our love of God and Christ’s love for us.

Come walk through our red doors and feel a very warm “Granite Welcome,” listen to the Word of God … it’s comforting for your mind, body and soul.
